How your grade works

TheGrade

60 / 20 / 20 · On time · Correct · Complete

Three parts, three checks, one check-in a month. You can figure out your grade at any time.

01The split

60 production, 20 CRED, 20 role

Three parts, three things we check, and one check-in a month. Remember that, and you can figure out your grade at any time. That’s the point.

60 PRODUCTION your beat sheet, scored against your own load 20 CRED same in all four CTE rooms 20 ROLE cadence and craft, monthly ONE HUNDRED POINTS, THREE BUCKETS ON TIMECORRECTCOMPLETE hit the Thursdaynames and facts and specs right nothing “I’ll add it later” 1 TO 5 EACH
Everything you turn in is checked the same three ways. 5 is ready to print. 4 needs one round of fixes. 3 does what was asked. 2 is a real try. 1 is barely started. 0 is missing.
60

Production

What you owe depends on your department’s task list. Design makes spreads. Content makes posts and story spreads. Outreach makes shoots, events, and sales. You’re graded on the work you were assigned, not on a page count. Three clean spreads and eleven clean spreads both score a 5.

20

CRED

Same rubric as every other CTE class here: taking part, communicating, being on time, taking care of the room and the gear, being someone people can work with. It can’t go below zero, so one bad month can’t drag down the rest. The full CRED rubric.

20

Role

Did you do the job you hold? Graded every month, looking at the last four weeks, two ways. Cadence: did your tasks happen as often as they should? Craft: was the work good? Chairs get a third: how their department did.

02Three checks

Everything you turn in, checked three ways

  • 1
On time. Make the checkpoint. Thursday, not Friday, and not “basically Thursday.”
  • 2
Correct. Names spelled right, facts right, specs right. This is what gets printed.
  • 3
Complete. Copy, captions, photos, and folio are all there. Nothing marked “I’ll add it later.”

Each one is scored 1 to 5, same scale as Graphic Design. 5 is ready to print. 4 needs one round of fixes. 3 does what was asked. 2 is a real try. 1 is barely started. 0 is missing.

You never lose points twice for one thing

Letting someone down vs. missing a task

CRED covers letting a person down. You said you’d shoot the game, and your partner ended up there alone. Role covers missing your weekly tasks. You owed three posts and posted one. Never both for the same thing.

Late

Turn it in anyway

Thursday is the deadline. Friday doesn’t count as Thursday.

Turn it in anyway. A late page still gets points, just fewer every day: a 3, then a 1, then a 0 at the next checkpoint. It’s not extra time. It’s a countdown.

A Power Pass is the only extension. Earn it first, use it before the checkpoint, and it doesn’t work on every checkpoint. CP5 is locked The Studio’s 17 spreads depend on it.

03Self-assessment

In the Keep, every month, before Sensei grades you

Skipping your self-assessment costs 20 pointsTurning it in late costs 6. These are the easiest twenty points on this site, and people still lose them.

You grade yourself before Sensei grades you. Short, and honest. Sensei asks you first because it’s the fastest way to find out if you really know how your month went. Most of you are harder on yourselves than he would be.

Where it goesThe monthly self-assessment

In the Keep, on the CRED tab, once a month, before grades go in.
