Instructions

One thingOne file. Three stages. The same name every time.

You design in Photoshop or Canva. You export a PDF. You post it in #yb-proofs. Three times per spread: DRAFT, V1, V2. Walsworth is the last 30 seconds.

Export the PDF

  • Photoshop
File → Save a Copy → format Photoshop PDF. Preset High Quality Print. Uncheck Layers. Save it in your spread folder.
  • Canva
Share → Download → PDF Print. Crop marks and bleed off for every PDF you post in Discord.
  • Size check
About 2 to 8 MB. Discord won’t take anything over 10 MB. Yours is 40 MB? You exported the print file by mistake.
  • Guides off
Open the PDF you just made and look at it. No pink dashes, no yellow band, no giant words across the middle.

Post it in #yb-proofs

  1. Open #yb-proofs in Discord. Find your spread’s thread. No thread yet? Start one, named with your spread name only: FALL_PEP_RALLY_Gianna C_42-43. Never start a second thread.
  2. Save the PDF in your spread’s Drive folder. Right-click → Share → Copy link. Paste the link in the thread.
  3. Check your work: click your own link. If it asks you to request access, the PDF isn’t in the class Drive yet.
  4. Under 10 MB? Drag the PDF in too. Write one line: which stage, and what you want people to look at.
  5. DRAFT: tag your chair. Wait for two replies that say SIGNED. V1: wait for the proof notes. V2: go on to Walsworth.

V2 only: Walsworth, then Drive

  1. Open your pages in Walsworth Online Design.
  2. Place your finished artwork so it covers the whole spread and runs off every edge it should.
  3. Check the spine (the fold in the middle). Then check it again.
  4. Save, then submit. Saved is not submitted.
  5. Put the whole folder in Drive: the three PDFs, the .psd, sources/, and WHERE THE PHOTOS CAME FROM.txt.
  6. Post in your thread that it’s done.

What it should look like

It’s checkpoint Thursday. Your spread is pages 42 and 43, the fall pep rally. Here is every piece of it and where it lives.

A thread anyone can read, a folder anyone can open, and pages that are really in the book.
  1. The thread: DRAFT, two SIGNED replies, V1, the proof notes, V2. Three posts, in order, nothing else in it.
  2. The folder: three PDFs, the Photoshop file, the sources, and a text file with one line: the photo folder your pictures came from.
  3. Walsworth: pages 42 and 43 aren’t gray boxes anymore. Your art is on them, runs off the edges, and is submitted.
The test

If you got sick tomorrow, could someone else finish your spread? If yes, you did it right.

Visual guide

Everything goes in one of three places.

  • #yb-proofs
Discord. Where people look at your work. DRAFT, V1, V2, the signatures, the notes. Opens on a phone.
  • The Drive
Google Drive. Where your work is stored. The PDFs, the .psd, sources/, the photo trail. Big files, all year.
  • Walsworth
Online Design. What the book prints from. Finished artwork, placed and submitted. The last 30 seconds.
If you ever have a file and don’t know where it goes

People look at it in Discord. It’s stored in Drive. It prints from Walsworth. That answers the question every time.

Which pep rally? Whose? Which pages? Which stage? In March, the only person who knows might not be around to ask.

Lesson

Why a thread and not just the channel

In March, someone will ask what happened with pages 42 and 43. With a thread, the answer is one scroll. Without it, 40 minutes of digging. A thread also means nobody has to ask whether you got signed off. They can check the thread.

Why the .psd and not a JPEG

A flattened JPEG looks finished, but nobody can change anything on it. Not one name, not one photo. sources/ holds anything you made that ended up on the page: a cutout, a headline design, a Canva export. Save the file someone would need to open to fix a misspelled name.

The print file is a different file

  • Photoshop
Keep the layered .psd as your main file. It goes in Drive, never Discord.
  • Canva
Download PDF Print with crop marks and bleed on this time. Drive, then Walsworth.
  • Both
Too big for Discord, and Discord isn’t for storing files.

The four ways a spread comes in wrong

All four are easy to fix on a Tuesday. On checkpoint Thursday, it’s too late

The guides are still on it. Pink dashes across your spread. You exported before turning off the guides layer.

A flat picture instead of the real file. No .psd, no sources. Nobody can change anything.

No photo trail. The spread looks great and nobody can find the full-size photos.

Built at the wrong size. Can’t be fixed. It’s the whole reason Spread Setup exists.

Why this gets a 5

Which stage, what changed, a link that opens, the PDF right there for phones, and the two sentences that tell the chair there’s nothing left to chase. The next person to read this thread learns everything in ten seconds.

How to turn it in

How to turn it inThe V2 is turned in when all three are true

The _V2.pdf is in its #yb-proofs thread. The folder is in Drive. The art is placed and submitted in Walsworth. Two out of three is not turned in.

Open #yb-proofs ↗ Checkpoint Thursday, 12:58 PM (start of 4th period). Turn it in on Walsworth, not Canvas.
