How a month runs

TheMonth

Workshop · Build · Proof · Checkpoint

Workshop is always first, checkpoint is always last. The middle stretches.

01The shape

Workshop, build, proof, checkpoint

Every month follows the same pattern. Graphic Design runs the same one on purpose, so both classes keep the same rhythm. Plan first, two signatures second, build third.

SIX TIMES A YEAR, SAME SHAPE WORKSHOP 30 minutes on the idea, then the one demo BUILD Walk the room. The 20-minute rule PROOF The room tears it apart CHECKPOINT Thursday. Pages in WORKSHOP IS ALWAYS FIRST, CHECKPOINT IS ALWAYS LAST, THE MIDDLE STRETCHES
The phases stretch or shrink to fit each cycle. The first cycle is 51 school days long, and CP2 is only 13, so a cycle can be three weeks or eleven. That’s why the calendar never says “week 2 of 4.”
1 · Workshop + Plan

Thirty minutes on the idea, then Sensei demos one technique that’s hard to learn from a video. Then you plan your spread. By the end of week one: a plan, not a page.

2 · Signed, then build

Your chair signs, Sensei signs, you build. Nothing gets built with one signature.

3 · Proof

Someone else marks up your mistakes. You fix them. Like a critique, except you’re hunting typos.

4 · Checkpoint

Thursday: pages are due. Then Friday, which is the whole reason the checkpoint is on Thursday.

The phases stretch or shrink to fit each cycle. The first cycle is 51 school days and CP2 is 13, so a cycle can be three weeks or eleven. That’s why the Calendar never says “week 2 of 4.”

02A normal week

A normal week, if you’re not a chair

Every day

Post your progress report in your department channel. 30 seconds: what you did, what’s slowing you down. Screenshot. Dojo-kun scores it.

Wednesday

Post your work in the first 5 minutes. Nothing new? Your last standup post gets shown. Nothing posted, nothing shown: zero. Then 90 seconds out loud. Then 10 minutes with your department. The Standup.

Whatever week it is

Do the one thing that phase asks for. The Calendar shows which phase you’re in and what to do today.

Outside class

1.5 to 2 hours on yearbook, reported Wednesday. Shooting, designing, filming, planning, selling all count.

Wednesday

90 seconds, out loud, everyone

Say what your work does, what you’d change, what’s next. You can’t skip your turn or say “same as him.” The trick: say your own weak spot first. Then the room stops hunting for a flaw and starts helping you fix the one you found.

Wednesday is short

36 minutes

Short day. Post in the first 5, talk for 90 seconds, 10 minutes with your department. That’s most of the period, which is why the posting happens first.

03Workshops

Each workshop gets its own student guide as it comes up.
